Why I Switched from Squarespace to Showit

Five years into my business, I have switched my website from Squarespace to Showit and am never looking back! I originally had my website designed through Squarespace because it was the easiest platform to learn and maintain. It was super easy to learn, and honestly, I didn’t look at other options because I was told it was the best out there. It was straightforward to my clients and showed off my work so I remained content with the site. Eventually, I reached a point where I was embarrassed by it and didn’t want to share it with potential clients.

How I felt about my old website:

  • Like it was holding me back! I reached the limit of what I could do to show off my brand. It wasn’t at the level I envisioned.
  • That all of my copy was going down the SEO drain.
  • Like it was hard to stand out! Every Squarespace website felt the same. No matter how many Showit sites I went to though, they all had elements that were new and engaging.

It was not representative of the work or service that I provide or advertise myself as. I had absolutely no confidence in it and never wanted to share it with clients because it wasn’t at the standard I hold my work at. I tried for months to re-design my vision in Squarespace (ultimately convincing myself I was just an awful designer). Turns out, you just can’t customize much in Squarespace. There was some way to achieve these websites without having to learn code, and that’s when I found Showit!

I came across a video of Showit’s drag-and-drop platform which blew my mind. I switched from Squarespace to Showit right then and there, and am never looking back.

Squarespace limits the amount of customization you can do based on the template you choose. This is great for people who just need a basic site or template but is a total roadblock for anyone wanting to go above and beyond the norm.

Showit allows you to customize every single tiny detail from small hovers to embedded video backgrounds. This means the possibilities are endless for design! Additionally, you can edit the mobile site separately from the desktop, allowing for total mobile optimization.

Showit has a great article on the differences between the two (covering the technical side too!) that you can visit here!

Other features I love:

  • While there is a bit of a learning curve to designing in Showit, it’s similar to designing in Illustrator (which I love!).
  • SEO is easy to understand, manage, and track (and my analytics are on fire 🔥 since switching over!).
  • The blog is through WordPress, which has a huge list of SEO benefits in itself.
  • Super easy to make changes and to teach clients how to make changes.
  • An awesome customer support team that gets back to you within a couple of hours.
  • Easy integrations with Shopify and other apps

Looking to the future

A website is never fully completed. There is always more to keep improving on, and I’m learning as I go. The one thing I know for sure: switching from Squarespace to Showit was the best decision I could have made for my business! It’s already paying off immensely, and I can’t wait to help more creatives with their Showit sites!
